Kimberly S. O’Loughlin (she/her) is a queer, transfeminine, award-winning sound designer, composer, and engineer based in New York City, her work has been heard throughout the United States. Originally from northwestern New Jersey, her passion for sound began in her teens and grew into a career spanning theater, concerts, events, television, film, and recording.
She is currently in her second season as resident sound designer at The Argyle Theatre on Long Island and at The Barnstormers Theatre in New Hampshire, where she Spent 5 seasons in residence and now returns as a guest designer. Her designs have ranged from intimate plays to large-scale musicals, always rooted in collaboration and storytelling.
Regional work includes Clue (Oregon Cabaret Theatre) and I Am My Own Wife (Long Wharf Theatre). In New York, her designs have been featured in Winesday (LDK Productions), Two By Synge (Irish Rep), Misconceptions (Blessed Unrest), While You Were Partying (SoHo Rep), and Overture and Leaving Eden at the New York Musical Festival. She also served as Festival Sound Designer and Coordinator for the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival, working closely with directors and playwrights to help bring new voices to the stage.
Her work has been recognized at NYMF for Leaving Eden, with the Outstanding Overall Design award. She was recently presented with the New Hampshire Theatre Alliance Award for Outstanding Sound Design of a Professional Production for Something Rotten! at the Barnstormers Theatre. Additionally she's had nominations for both Broadway World New Hampshire Awards and New Hampshire Theatre Awards for many of her designs at The Barnstormers Theatre. She has also been nominated for multiple Broadway World Long Island awards for her work at The Argyle Theater.
A proud graduate of SUNY Empire with a B.S. in Sound Design, Kimberly previously taught theatrical sound design at Montclair State University. Her work continues to focus on developing new plays and musicals, valuing collaboration, open communication, and the shared act of storytelling that defines live performance.
